Cross-Platform vs Native Mobile Apps: Which Should You Build?
By eLeopards Team · 23 Oct 2026 · 5 min read
Both approaches produce real apps. The right choice depends on budget, timeline and what the app needs to do.
Cross-platform
One shared codebase serves iOS and Android, often with frameworks like React Native or Flutter.
- Lower cost and faster delivery for most business apps.
- Easier to keep both platforms in sync.
- Handles typical needs well: forms, lists, accounts, payments, notifications.
Native
Separate apps are built for each platform in Swift or Kotlin.
- Best access to newest platform features and the smoothest performance.
- Suited to graphics-heavy, hardware-intensive or highly polished experiences.
- Higher cost, since you maintain two codebases.
A practical rule of thumb
For most business, booking, ordering and service apps, cross-platform is the sensible default. Choose native when the product depends on advanced device features or top-tier performance.
Do not forget the store
Both routes need App Store and Play Store submission, review and ongoing updates. Plan for maintenance as part of the budget.
